Hidden behind Mother Wolf in Hollywood, California is Mars, an exclusive cocktail lounge from Giancarlo Pagani. (Guests can access exclusive privileges by paying a $5,000 annual membership fee.)
Lauren Borisoff, owner of Los Angeles-based Borisoff Design Studio, brought the interiors to life with a red-toned color palette. Walls are sheathed in a moody burgundy shade, millwork gradually brightens into lighter red hues, and touches of coral and pink are sprinkled throughout the space. The palette is complemented by walnut wood and red-green marble to create a sense of opulence reminiscent of a Roman palace library.
“The overall palette was inspired by the feminine interpretation of the Roman god, Mars, and what she represents, as well as to complement the adjacent restaurant, Mother Wolf, and its Italian heritage,” Borisoff explains.
Custom chairs, sofas, and vintage accents are set against playful wallcoverings that feature “dragons and mushrooms and feel very playful, bringing more fantasy to the space, which feels appropriate for a nightlife escape,” she adds.
Unlike traditional lounges, Mars does not have a permanent bar occupying half the room. Instead, the focus is on service that happens behind the scenes. A portable bar is also featured on the patio, as well as a wall of luxury liquor lockers.
Ultimately, Borisoff’s intention is for Mars patrons to feel “inspired, sexy, a little mischievous, yet relaxed and comfortable.”
