For more than 25 years, chef and restaurateur Nobu Matsuhisa’s namesake restaurant in Aspen, Colorado has been a local favorite for modern Japanese cuisine.
The sushi restaurant, situated in a two-story Victorian-era house on Main Street, features a casual dining room downstairs and an intimate sushi bar upstairs. A recent renovation led by Colorado-based Rowland+Broughton Architecture has taken Matsuhisa Aspen to a new level.
The understated interior’s sloped ceiling is now clad with Burmese teak planks and integral lighting. At the heart of the main dining area, the nine-seat liquor bar features a new back bar with antique mirrors and illuminated liquor bottles. Freestanding tables and banquettes, along with a central communal table, provide ample seating.
The refresh also comprised a newly designed sushi bar and upstairs kitchen.
