MYATA Platinum Restaurant is the result of a collaboration between Dubai-based Proto21 and London-based architecture firm DA Bureau.
Located in Dubai’s City Walk shopping and dining destination, the hookah lounge, restaurant, and bar features 3D-printed interior elements (and one structure which is the world’s largest 3D-printed structure [volume], according to the Guinness World Records).
Entering the “canyon”
The project is defined by a series of 23 canyons assembled using 158 printers and more than 21,700 3D-printed components.
Crafted from polymers and finished with textured paint, the design aligns with the Arab building sector’s sustainability goals, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions by 8.8 million tons annually by 2030.
“To materialize the idea, the studio designed the interior on the image of a sand canyon,” says Boris Lvovsky, cofounder and CEO of DA Bureau. “A canyon is a constantly changing geological formation shaped by water and wind. We recreated its flowing amorphous forms running into each other in a modern interpretation.”
“Myata Platinum employed Proto21 to 3D print the whimsical fluted structures that shaped an introverted, inward-looking space,” he continues. “Outside, these curving, enveloping rocky structures form a terrace isolated from the city. At the same time, indoors, they shape the layout, dividing the interior into separate chamber zones.”
Setting the ambiance at MYATA Platinum Lounge
The organic, undulating structures form a sculptural terrace that isolates the lounge from the city, while simultaneously shaping intimate chamber-like seating zones.
The entrance is crafted as a narrowing funnel, drawing guests in through dark, winding corridors before opening into a cavernous main lounge.
Lighting, developed in collaboration with Yarko-Yarko, plays a key role in enhancing the immersive ambiance. Soft amber hues emanate from concealed sources, mimicking the golden glow of a sunset and emphasizing the canyon’s complex topography.
Atmospheric lighting effects further enhance the experience, casting halos and illuminating clouds of steam from the hookahs.
