The Westin Riverwalk, San Antonio has unveiled the redesign of its indoor-outdoor restaurant, Zocca Cuisine d’Italia.
Designed by Dallas-based studio Waldrop + Nichols, the overhauled venue pays homage to Italy while also honoring the hotel’s position on the city’s iconic River Walk through a “foundation influenced by authenticity,” Waldrop + Nichols president Reggi Nichols says. “The connection of San Antonio’s past with its future as the bridges, walkways, and staircases connect the River Walk celebrating the culture that is ‘puro’ San Antonio reimagined with modern twist.”
An earthy palette of terracotta, burgundy, and maize permeate warmth throughout Zocca as it transports guests to Italy with custom handpainted canvas murals that depict wine, olives, and chestnuts. A relocated bar more organically connects the restaurant to the River Walk, while the open-concept lounge supports a seamless transition from day to evening with a convivial sensibility.
Gold accents, frescoes, fragmented stone, and patterned tile infuse the narrative with tactility, evocative of both Texan and Italian landscapes. Contemporary tables and chairs are installed alongside walled-in booths and cushioned banquettes as well. A vino-inspired private dining room is also featured.
