IHG Hotels & Resorts plants two new flags in Italy this spring with the recent opening of Six Senses Rome and the forthcoming InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace.
“With our two new amazing hotels and a wealth of restaurants opening, there are so many reasons to explore the Eternal City. The city hasn’t seen this level of brand-new luxury hotels open in many years, ” says Jane Mackie, senior vice president of luxury and lifestyle brands at IHG. “Rome seamlessly blends together the ancient and the modern styles that have inspired architecture, design, and fashion trends throughout the world—and IHG’s two new hotels significantly up the ante on the level of depth and variation of luxury, with something to suit the lifestyle and location preferences of different luxury travelers.”
Six Senses Rome
The Six Senses brand’s first Italian outpost, which opened in March, emphasizes wellness and sustainability via a design by Patricia Urquiola that juxtaposes classicism and contemporary Italian art and furnishings. All-day eatery BIVIUM Restaurant-Café-Bar and the NOTOS Rooftop serve as the property’s key social hubs, while a dozen configurations span the hotel’s 96 guestrooms. Each accommodation touts distinctive Triclinium-style marble seating on the terrace as well as bespoke, organic handmade bedding. A trio of signature suites overlook landmarks like main street Via del Corso and the neighboring San Marcello al Corso Church.
InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace
Slated to open this May in the heart of the city, the InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace will call to mind La Dolce Vita. First constructed in 1900 by renowned Italian architect Carlo Busiri Vici to host ambassadors, the property will feature a renewed chic, contemporary ethos accented by neoclassical details that honor the site’s historic splendor. The 160-room urban retreat will also boast an outpost of popular New York restaurant Scarpetta, along with Anita’s Bar and Lounge and Charlie’s Rooftop (the only rooftop venue that will be open in Rome year round).
