Thailand-based hotel and property development company Dusit International has reimagined its flagship hotel, Dusit Thani Bangkok.
With revamped interiors by Hong Kong firm André Fu Studio, the 257-key Dusit Thani Bangkok exudes modern luxury with an artful spirit.
“We started with a vision to create a hotel that seeks to celebrate Thai culture on the global stage,” says Fu, founder of his eponymous practice. “Together with Dusit’s creative team, we dug deep into the history and heritage of the original property that opened in 1970 to define its spirit and determine how we could translate this into a contemporary new skyscraper with my personal language of relaxed luxury.”
The arrival experience
Inspired by the artistry of traditional Thai pavilions, a triple-height lobby recreates the grand arrival experience of the original property, while elevating it with signature elements like a lush waterfall garden with a tiered geometric composition, as well as preserved tropical trees.
A mural by Thai artist Sakon Malee honors the hotel’s deep-rooted ties to the community. Traditional earthenware from Koh Kret, a small island in the Chao Phraya River known for its pottery traditions, is on display as well.
The luxurious aesthetic is further accentuated through a dusty-golden hexagonal ceiling, free-standing bronze screens, and a warm palette featuring oak paneling paired with fresh accents of mauve, sage green, and teal blue.
Guestrooms at the Dusit Thani Bangkok
Accommodations are rendered in a palette of sage, celadon green, pale champagne, and gold to evoke a sense of timeless elegance.
Vast cantilevered picture frame windows capture uninterrupted views of Lumpini Park to recreate “the spirit of Thailand’s traditional sala asai—a place for travelers to rest and reflect—with elegant daybeds that stretch the entire length of the cantilevered windows,” Fu shares.
Additional amenities
The hotel now features one of Bangkok’s largest ballrooms, with high ceilings and panoramic views of the public park. On the fifth floor, Devarana Wellness spans more than 11,000 square feet with an infinity pool, gym, and spa.
The Pavilion restaurant, crafted with a tropical aesthetic, showcases three timber pavilions and a hidden speakeasy, while Dusit Gourmet provides a contemporary deli experience, complete with a 40-foot Italian marble counter set on mineral blue mosaic flooring.
“To me, this project captures a turning point for Thai hospitality,” Fu adds.
