Toronto-based design studio Nivek Remas has reimagined the Fairmont Gold floor at Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim. The renovation draws inspiration from the region’s urban energy and lush natural surroundings.
A journey through light and shadow
Contrasting shapes and a play with light and dark guide the guest experience. At the Gold level elevator lobby, bright, airy tones create a welcoming first impression, while shadowy, ombre wallpaper-lined corridors evoke a sense of intrigue. These darker transitions culminate in warm walnut wood paneling at the entrance of each guestroom, offering a sense of arrival and calm.
“Great design should be visceral, emotive, and impactful,” says Kevin Chan, cofounder of Nivek Remas. “Our goal was to create a sanctuary that feels grounding and inspiring.”
The design of the Fairmont Gold guestrooms
Inside the Fairmont Gold guestrooms, light floods the space through floor-to-ceiling windows that frame views of the nearby mountains and harbor.
The interior palette highlights natural materials, like walnut paneling and wallpaper inspired by misty forest landscapes. Green-hued hallways echo the tranquil connection to the outdoors as well.
Sophisticated touches further elevate the accommodations. A striking pendant light softly illuminates plush green velvet sofas, while curated artwork explores the interplay of light and shadow, reinforcing themes of discovery.
Bathrooms, meanwhile, are outfitted with Japanese-style washlets, rich walnut finishes, and an overall design that exudes a sleek, residential warmth.
Inside the Gold Lounge
The centerpiece of the Fairmont Gold experience is the 20th-floor Gold Lounge, a sophisticated gathering space designed in harmony with its waterfront setting. Here, guests can enjoy thoughtfully curated seasonal culinary offerings and artisanal cocktails while taking in sweeping views.
“The reimagination of Fairmont Gold isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about storytelling, emotion, and connection,” says Samer Shaath, cofounder of Nivek Remas. “We’ve crafted a space that allows guests to explore, reflect, and engage.”
