Hilton Worldwide, along with Icelandair Hotels, has launched its first Canopy property with the debut of the Canopy by Hilton Reykjavik City Centre. Centrally located on bustling Hverfisgata Street, the property offers easy access to Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre and the Laugavegur commercial corridor.
Local design influence is captured in the property’s architecture while natural materials define the interiors. Björgvin Snæbjörnsson of Apparat Architects led the interior designs in collaboration with Hilton’s design team, aiming to strike a balance of comfort and function in alignment with the spirit of the neighborhood. A true reflection of the city, all 112 guestrooms and suites are designed in a palette of ocean blue and gray volcanic rock along with playful décor like Reykjavik music boxes, and textiles and furniture from Icelandic designer and artisan Kristján Siggeirson.
Images by Icelandic photographers Vigfús Birgisson and Vilhelm Gunnarsson and artwork from native artists Sigurður Ámundason, Paolo Gianfrancesco, Theresa Himmer, and Birgir Snæbjörn Birgisson are featured, in addition to an Icelandic architecture wall, showcasing notable designs from some of the country’s top architects.
Bookworms are invited to unwind in the hotel’s poets corner while music lovers can dig through the property’s vinyl library, a nod to the area’s musical roots. The Geiri Smart restaurant offers locally inspired cuisine while the lobby’s Canopy Central area provides artisanal breakfast options as well as wine and beer tastings in the evening. A deli, coffee shop, and garden are also available, along with a 24-hour fitness center and a 50-person events venue.
Canopy by Hilton, the company’s lifestyle hotel brand, has also recently announced an upcoming new-build property in Portland, Oregon, slated to debut in 2017. Additional locations are planned for Rockville, Maryland; Ithaca, New York; West Palm Beach, Florida; Oklahoma City; and Charlotte.
