Hilton has inaugurated its 600th hotel in the Asia-Pacific market with the opening of its first Hilton Garden Inn in Japan. Located in the heart of Kyoto, the nine-story Hilton Garden Inn Kyoto Shijo Karasuma features a design by studio Tanseisha that marries traditional Japanese design elements with modern sensibilities.
“Based on the Hilton Garden Inn brand concept of ‘light, bright, and airy,’ the theme of ‘craft’ was chosen to represent the essence of Japan and Kyoto’s traditional craftsmanship,” says Tanseisha creative director Kosuke Ishii. “The entire hotel was designed to be a bright, friendly, and comfortable space.”
Light wood and the soft textures of plastered walls are accented with green elements that nod to bamboo, pine forests, and green tea. Shoji screens and other wooden details abound in asymmetrical compositions and layers that infuse greater depth.
The lobby area’s reception, bar, and lounge are configured to invoke openness across a casual interior punctuated by artwork and furnishings selected to reflect local craftsmanship and culture.
In addition to amenities like a fitness center, pantry, and a self-service laundry facility, the 250-room hotel is home to Together & Co., a vibrant, laidback all-day dining option. Nine guestroom configurations, ranging from 215 to 615 square feet, are available to support a broad range of travelers as well.
