New Orleans’ Kimpton Hotel Fontenot, which opened in May 2021, has announced expansion plans. Slated for completion in January 2023, the update will include the addition of 33 new guestrooms and suites, more than 12,000 square feet of meetings and events, and a new signature restaurant King. MARKZEFF will spearhead the design of the eatery, which will channel a traditional French brasserie with a modern, Mediterranean spin. “Inspired by the architectural detail of the [city’s] townhouse buildings and local culture, the interior design combines both the classic and the modern,” says MARKZEFF director of hospitality design Stacie Meador.
Upscale but casual, King will be housed within the historic townhouse portion of the hotel structure, accessed via original black paneled French doors. A traditional stained black bar will be accented by antique brass pendants and a mirrored back bar, while vibrant black and white tiles will span the bar and dining room. Barstools and dining chairs will be defined by French-inspired cane detailing alongside custom banquettes wrapped in black and cognac-hued tufted leather.
Housed above King, flexible event spaces will include the 5,500-square-foot Canary Ballroom as well as a second-floor patio. The expansion and redesign of Kimpton Hotel Fontenot will integrate original architecture—like brick walls and ceiling timber beams—into the modernization.
