Pillows Hotels has launched its sixth European property in the heart of Amsterdam. Located within a palatial 20th-century landmark in Oosterpark, the 88-room Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Maurits at the Park features architecture by locally based practice Office Winhov and interiors courtesy of Studio Linse.
Conceived as a cosmopolitan meeting place, the grand structure has been reimagined to harken back to its history as a university. Moments of Parisian elegance are juxtaposed by Dutch sophistication across the interior design, and a warm, earthy color palette establishes a relaxed ambiance throughout.
Fine dining concept VanOost invites guests to dine beneath nearly 50-foot-tall ceilings and surrounded by design elements of a bygone era that nod to the Tropenmuseum next door. The light and airy Spring Café Brasserie provides ample indoor-outdoor seating; Fitz’s Bar evokes intimacy through a materiality of leather, wood, felt, and velour; and a rooftop bar rounds out the onsite F&B destinations. A trio of decorated salons are also featured, serving as ideal spaces for meetings and events. A private lounge known as the Living boasts a library and luscious design as well.
Ranging from 190 to 530 square feet, the property’s opulent guestrooms and suites embody of comfort and are enlivened by artwork by painter Raphaël Hermans.
Plus, the project returns more than 4,000 square feet of parkland to the public by removing existing fences and partitions. “We are adding the hotel to the park—usually, it is the other way around,” says Office Winhov partner Uri Gilad.
