The Santarena Hotel has been revitalized to herald a new era for the Costa Rica beach town of Las Catalinas. Spearheaded by Ginny Brewer Design and Desarrollo Catalina Verde, the lively redesign emphasizes the beauty of the setting through an ethos of tropical elegance. “As the pearl of the town of Las Catalinas, Santarena Hotel is the center of town and epitomizes a life that the place stands for,” Ginny Brewer says. “We wanted to see a bohemian, urban vibe that connects people to the beach and the active lifestyle of Las Catalinas.”
The hotel lobby was crafted to mimic a residential living room with wallcoverings and murals chosen to reinforce the streetscape and instill a sense of place. A sociable space comprises a lounge as well as the new Ponciana Bar. A deep green and glass wine cellar anchors the indoor-outdoor bar, while surfaces like the high-top quartz bar counter dazzle beneath ambient lighting and the glow of pendant fixtures.
Across all 45 guestrooms, including three suites, a crisp, linear design infuses a contemporary sensibility accented by sleek-yet-mellow touches conceived to promote restoration.
