Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spa is slated to launch its latest property early next month in the Arava Valley of Israel’s Negev Desert. The secluded Six Senses Shaharut resort will draw upon the lunar-like beauty of the locale to strike a harmonious balance with nature. Six Senses’ in-house design team partnered on the project with Tel Aviv-based Plesner Architects to reinterpret the destination’s historic nomadic structures and reinforces the arid setting through a modern lens.
“We wanted the stones, the patterns, the textures, and the colors to be omnipresent, resulting in architecture that is woven in with the natural elements,” says architect Daniela Plesner. “The material palette used throughout the project was chosen to complement the natural hues and textures of the landscape.”
Interiors will draw inspiration from the patterns and textures that once lined the ancient Incense Route that stretched from the Mediterranean to India and beyond. Furnishings and fittings featuring stone, wood, and copper elements were sourced from local artisans to complement the area’s weathered rock formations. Custom doors, for instance, were crafted from reclaimed teak that is more than 200 years old.
Sixty suites and villas will be spread across the expansive desert landscape in addition to a signature spa comprising six treatment rooms, an alchemy bar, and two pools, including a freshwater infinity pool. The onsite Earth Lab will showcase the resort’s sustainability efforts and its circular economy as well.
