The Benjamin Royal Sonesta New York has unveiled its first phase of renovations.
The initial phase of the hotel’s refresh, courtesy of DLR Group, reveals a present-day interpretation of the urban oasis, combining classic elegance with modern flair for an ambiance that evokes a members-only club.
The property now features a refreshed lobby and guestrooms, including the Benjamin Suite and the introduction of the brand-new Beverly Suite.
The design takes cues from the building’s history and is inspired by the story of two fictional main characters, Benjamin and Beverly. Masculine elements—like bold lines and modern details of warm wood and rich leather—reflect Ben, while Bev is represented via feminine touches, such as gilded curves, intricate patterns, and a soft color palette.
A refreshed lobby
The reimagined lobby presents a sophisticated sense of arrival and discovery. The front desk, detailed after a handcrafted cigar box, features rich ebony wood and warm leather and is outlined with gold detailing.
A soft, amber-veined onyx backdrop softly illuminates the space, while above, a winding sculptural element flows and shimmers through the lobby activating the space with a residential-style elegance.
Inside the accommodations
The hotel’s 209 guestrooms and suites are defined by warm walnut wood tones, herringbone floors, and lightly hued wallcoverings.
The two premium suites, the Benjamin and the Beverly, offer sweeping terraces with views of the Manhattan skyline.
The Benjamin Suite features a wood-clad gallery art wall, a burl wood conference table, a custom built-in desk, and a menswear-inspired desk chair. In the bedroom, a leather and wood headboard spans the wall as the focal point of the space.
Meanwhile, the Beverly Suite is rendered in soft, delicate finishes and decorative light fixtures. The room is characterized by a library wall, a burl wood desk with carved legs, and a marble dining table with a fluted wood base, which is illuminated by a circular glass chandelier hanging above.
