Hilton and EKN Development have joined forces to bring a 15-acre mixed-use development to Nevada. Expected for completion in 2027, the Waldorf Astoria Lake Tahoe resort will comprise 76 guestrooms and 61 branded residences designed by international firm SB Architects. (More than two dozen non-branded, privately owned residences will also be housed on the grounds.)
Characterized by a contemporary architectural vernacular, the resort will feature clean lines, varied pitched roofs, and abundant outdoor space to instill an authentic sense of place. Warm woods and natural stone will command the materiality, complemented by metal tones as well.
“A primary goal was to create a natural, direct connection to the water beyond, which we achieved by elevating the lobby to capture expansive views of the lake,” says Keith Houchin, vice president and associate principal of SB Architects. “The lobby terraces down to an existing grove of trees, immersing guests in the natural landscape and creating a seamless flow between spaces. By creating a series of communal spaces to allow for year-round indoor/outdoor connections, guests can bask in the direct connection to the lake from the comfort of the resort and the surrounding idyllic setting.”
Waldorf Astoria Lake Tahoe will also boast a 10,000-square-foot casino and a slew of dining options, including an all-day dining brasserie, the brand’s signature Peacock Alley lounge, and a poolside restaurant.
“Now more than ever, our guests are seeking engaging experiences, from embracing local culture to connecting with nature. With Waldorf Astoria Lake Tahoe, guests will enjoy one of the finest natural settings at one of the most luxurious hotels in the destination,” says Matt Schuyler, chief brand officer for Hilton. “Bringing Waldorf Astoria’s distinguished hospitality to an extraordinary location like Lake Tahoe provides the perfect opportunity for travelers and residents to immerse themselves in the incredible, serene beauty that the destination offers while indulging in the authentic and sophisticated experiences for which the brand is renowned.”
