Astet Studio has completed Lazy Lion, a new cocktail bar housed within the Adria Palace, a landmark historic building in Budapest. The project sets out to create a tension between old and new: where the palace projects architectural authority, Lazy Lion answers with something wilder and more expressive.
Setting the tone at the bar
The bar area serves as a formal introduction to Lazy Lion. The space draws on a French aesthetic, with a ceiling mural featuring exotic flora and ornamental reliefs depicting animal figures.
Stone and wood form the material foundation, their natural textures amplified by amber lighting. Brown-toned upholstery in feline patterns completes the atmosphere, grounding the space in something instinctive and tactile.
A lion motif anchors the room visually, positioned above the DJ booth as the space’s defining focal point.
An immersive main dining room at Lazy Lion
The passage connecting the bar to the main room functions as more than circulation. Its walls are wrapped in bold, heavily patterned fabric, interrupted by three openings: two framing animal figures, and a central one leading to the restrooms. The corridor intensifies the sensory experience, preparing guests for what’s ahead.
The main room represents the project’s most ambitious design statement. A vaulted ceiling crowns the central chamber, while a metallic palm-leaf ceiling treatment and a continuous organic bench, shaped to evoke the sinuous forms of nature, push the space toward full immersion. Here, reflections and layered textures dominate the visual field.
