Language learning app Duolingo partnered with Brooklyn-based Rapt Studio to design its New York office.
The new workplace houses an array of learning environments across two floors.
A quiet, contemplative disposition in establish in the reading room via warm, neutral toned-finishes and sensitive detailing in the architecture and furniture. It is encircled by single-occupancy study carrels—some more inward, while others open onto broad views of downtown Manhattan.
In the center, a large communal table is bookended on each corner by a set of shelves.
Down the hall is the dining room, a more energetic space with a layered, variegated palette of polychrome upholstery and niche seating arrangements.
The picture gallery, which serves as both the reception area and an event space, features a collection of trompe l’oeil portraits of Duolingo’s much-loved characters. What appear at first to be oil paintings reveal themselves as animated characters, winking and nodding at viewers.
