Portuguese footwear brand Lachoix has unveiled a retail space in Lisbon’s Príncipe Real. Crafted by locally based design studio Atelier Holcnerova, the 1,400-square-foot store is reminiscent of a gallery with a blanched backdrop, custom stone expositors, and white shelving fashioned so shoes appear to levitate.
“The client required that their open-space concept store mutually functions as a display area and working space,” says Lenka Holcnerova of Atelier Holcnerova. “Our aim was to create a clean-yet-sophisticated space that would feel timeless and maybe even spaceless. By stripping down the layers of finishings to the absolute essence of the space and using neutral palettes, the main protagonists are the exposed products.”
A single curtain is used to partition retail and office areas without comprising the openness characterizing the layout. The fresh, contemporary atmosphere also utilizes upcycled elements from the previous tenant, including cork. The texture of cork is further conveyed across a white-painted wall.
A pair of bespoke rugs in cloud-like shapes were also installed to complement the sense of weightlessness evoked throughout the design, while a custom table composed of white marble and concrete legs serves as a key focal point. Modern seating and a white leather daybed are featured, too.
