Shanghai-based design firm Linehouse has completed the first Chinese offices for the Canadian lifestyle brand Herschel Supply. The office’s location within a transformed, grazed urban landscape informed the design, emphasizing deconstruction as well as the relationship between public and private spaces. A trace of the original façade is still visible when approaching the structure, whose voids have been filled with recycled brick.
The office is crafted with a black metal framework as well as glass partitions dividing different workplace areas without compromising transparency. Perforated and solid corrugated stainless steel spans the space, which also includes stripped lining, exposing parts of the original framework. The open plan features lounge seating, a meeting room, and pantry easily transformed into private settings with corrugated sliding doors.
