Jewelry brand Melanie Auld has launched a flagship store in Vancouver, Canada, crafted in collaboration with local firm Gillian Segal Design.
Founder Melanie Auld was halfway through the renovation of her home when she signed the lease on a new space for her brand. She then tapped residential designer Gillian Segal, who was working on her home’s redesign, to craft the retail concept, too.
“Melanie wanted the store to feel refined and beautiful but still approachable,” recounts Segal. “So we focused on warm, natural, and rich materials like plaster, richly stained woods, and bold and warm marbles.”
The design narrative gravitates towards patinated finishes, including leathered stone to reduce sheen. A mix of vintage finds and artisan-made goods—including sconces by local ceramicist Danica Kaspar—also adds an eclectic touch.
The goal was to create a space where “guests feel inspired, welcome, and not intimidated,” says Segal. “While things are luxurious, there is an element of play and a sense of rawness to keep things from feeling overly formal.” Such playful moments include a bold color surprise in the piercing room and the entry mat, which is an outdoor Ikea rug cut into a custom shape.
