Automobile and lifestyle brand Lynk & Co has introduced the Barcelona Club, its first club in Spain. Located along Paseo de Gracia, the space was crafted by creative studio Masquespacio to reflect the brand’s principles of sustainability and creativity, as well as the city’s artistic ethos.
“We didn’t want to focus on certain events or aesthetics from Barcelona, but more on the fact that Barcelona is well known as a city of creativity in Europe,” says Masquespacio cofounder and manager Christophe Penasse. “We started to search for different aesthetics related to a movie, a design, an architecture movement, and also music. Every space you see, in this case, is inspired by one of them.”
Indeed, the Barcelona Club welcomes guests with a large 3D-printed volume reminiscent of the Emerald City skyline from the Wizard of Oz that houses fitting rooms. A car also occupies the show floor, sheathed within another bulbous mass reminiscent of a whale. Interiors retain the brutalist character of the space, a throughline of Lynk & Co’s other club spaces. Ceramics, concrete, fabrics, and greenery soften the brutalism, while other areas—like the luminous bathrooms or a coworking area located behind an old safe door and designed to recall a swimming pool—further infuse fantasy.
“[Lynk & Co] has some sort of a brutalist look to which they like to add strong design elements without making them too designed,” Penasse adds. “At the same time, they like to avoid going for the literal and add a bit of an ironic touch to the space. I think in this sense we fit very well together.”
