The Bower, a 39-room boutique hotel, is slated to open by the end of February on the grounds of John D. Spreckels’ former Japanese tea garden in Coronado, California.
Rooted in the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, the design embraces the beauty of natural imperfection through organic materials and a tranquil aesthetic.
Honoring legacy through design
The Bower preserves its botanical and cultural history through a thoughtful architectural narrative by Delawie and SFA Design.
The design embodies a minimalist, wabi-sabi philosophy with clean lines and organic materials like limestone, patinated metals, and artisan woodwork.
The lobby welcomes guests with a warm, residential feel featuring a grand stone fireplace, custom furniture, and an art piece crafted from rice paper with hand-dipped ink edges.
Lush landscaping echoes the ground’s botanical heritage, while the layout creates a flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Dive at the Bower Coronado
At the heart of the Bower is Dive, Coronado’s first rooftop bar and restaurant, which offers panoramic views from Point Loma to Mexico. The design of the venue takes cues from 1950s California, blending nostalgic elements with a modern coastal aesthetic to create a destination for both locals and visitors.
