Recently opened in the Hell’s Kitchen section of Manhattan, Yingtao is a contemporary Chinese dining concept from first-time restaurateur Bolun Yao that reimagines well-loved family recipes.
The 50-seat restaurant, designed by New York-based Glen & Co. Architecture, is rooted in Chinese culture, defined by a timeless elegance fused with contemporary playfulness.
The dining room—surrounded by an open kitchen, a nine-seat bar, and a backyard garden—was envisioned to be both glamorous and tranquil, with high-glass black walls and cherry-red accents that pay homage to the fruit that shares Yingtao’s name in mandarin.
Throughout the space, Yao’s personal style is reflected in whimsical details, such as walls showcasing a duck aging unit and rotating art displays, a custom cherry tree mirror etching, and a kitchen tile mosaic of Yao’s grandmother.
Inventive touches from emerging Asian and Asian-American creatives and a carefully curated hip-hop playlist round out Yingtao’s dynamic, modern spirit.
