At a glance: Located in a mixed-use development, the 212-room Thompson Austin joins Hyatt’s other lifestyle brand tommie (by Venice, California firm Studio Collective) in the city’s downtown area. The Brutalist-inspired interior is centered on a fireplace that is surrounded by layers of plants and low-slung furniture “that give you the sense you’ve stepped into the coolest loft living room [in Austin],” says firm principal Lisa Simeone.
