Mamula Island Hotel, Bay of Kotor, Montenegro

With a grand opening planned for March, an abandoned 19th-century fortress on a previously uninhabited island will be revitalized as the 32-room Mamula Island Hotel, which will combine historic elements and modern additions including a memorial (the site was used as a concentration camp during the Second World War), glass-covered courtyard, and spa. Earthy hues drawing on the landscape will be accented with brighter tones, pieces from local artists, and materials of local Cevsky stone, aged brass, oak, and organic textiles nodding to the area’s traditions.
