Hotel AKA NoMad—part of serviced-apartment brand AKA’s expansion into the traditional hotel market—will be Italian architect and designer Piero Lissoni’s first-ever U.S. property. The former Roger New York is being fully transformed, calling on Japanese and Scandinavian design influences via natural materials like wood and stone to help guests escape Manhattan’s hustle. With a wine bar, café, and library lounge leading out to a terrace, the 178-room property will be a welcome retreat in the city’s design district when it opens in April.
