Danieli, Venezia, A Four Seasons Hotel has reopened on the Riva degli Schiavoni, its silhouette once again anchoring one of the Italian city’s most iconic waterfronts.
The property comprises three historic buildings: Palazzo Dandolo, built in 1471 as the residence of the noble Dandolo family; Palazzo Casa Nuova, once home to the Treasury of the Venetian Republic; and Palazzo Danieli Excelsior, which is undergoing a restoration expected to be completed next year. The hotel has reemerged with 120 rooms and suites, with the total set to grow to 168.
Pierre-Yves Rochon’s design palette
French designer Pierre-Yves Rochon led the renovation of Palazzo Dandolo and Palazzo Casa Nuova, framing the approach around three core elements: history, light, and materials. The interiors draw on the color palette of the Venetian Lagoon, layering celadon greens, soft blues, terracotta, ochre, and powder pink across spaces that echo Venice’s historic plasterwork and vernacular architecture.
The lobby of Palazzo Dandolo sets the tone immediately. A fully restored, handpainted gilded ceiling traces an quatrefoil pattern against an azure blue that mirrors the lagoon beyond, while columns, stonework, and the grand staircase have been meticulously revitalized by skilled artisans.
Throughout the property, Venetian mirrors and reflective surfaces amplify natural light, and Murano glass, terrazzo flooring, and bespoke Rubelli textiles allow local craftsmanship to shine.
A curated artwork collection adds another layer of narrative, drawing on the spirit of the Grand Tour, when Venice served as an essential destination for artists and writers. Intaglios, Venetian engravings, antiqued mirrors, and decorative objects reinterpret the city’s artistic heritage across refined, residential spaces.
Rooms that frame the city at Danieli, Venezia
The renovation also refreshes the guestrooms, with more spacious layouts and an expanded collection of junior and one-bedroom suites.
Accommodations look out over the lagoon, the city’s canals, or its rooftops, providing perspectives that shift with the light and the season. Many suites offer generous living areas with flexible configurations, expandable through connecting rooms.
Technology is discreetly integrated throughout. A bespoke in-room media wall incorporates the television into a curated composition of artwork and decorative objects, while automated curtains, customizable lighting scenes, and an intuitive climate control system allow guests to tailor the environment to their preference.
Terrazza Danieli elevated
Terrazza Danieli, the hotel’s rooftop restaurant, has been transformed as well. Soft pastel hues, azure accents, and muted golden tones replace dark finishes, and mirrored surfaces amplify natural light while framing views of San Giorgio Maggiore island. The outdoor terrace, meanwhile, references the warm terracotta tones of the historic façade.
At the bar, the classic Italian aperitivo ritual anchors the beverage program, with a menu of classic cocktails reinterpreted with a modern twist.
Coming soon: Danieli Spa and Palazzo Danieli Excelsior
The property’s evolution is still unfolding. Slated to open late 2026, Danieli Spa will introduce a sauna, hammam, and three treatment rooms, including one dedicated to couples’ experiences.
The full restoration of Palazzo Danieli Excelsior, which will bring Danieli to 168 key, is slated for completion in 2027.
