Pirajean Lees Brings Mimi Kakushi to Miami Beach

The Japanese concept pairs city energy with beachside calm atop the Delano

London-based design studio Pirajean Lees has unveiled a new Mimi Kakushi restaurant atop the newly reimagined Delano Miami Beach.

Perched on the fourth-floor rooftop and facing the Atlantic Ocean, the indoor-outdoor retreat captures the vibrant energy of Miami. The design draws its inspiration from Japanese silent film legend Sessue Hayakawa, building a narrative around his itinerant persona: a star who traveled the world and found private corners that reflected different facets of his eclectic personality. This story translates into a space where city glamour meets the relaxed openness of the beach.

The rooftop terrace is designed to transition throughout the day, blending elevated counter dining with intimate banquette seating to accommodate both formal meals and more spontaneous gatherings. Timber bead curtains filter sunlight across the interior, casting shifting patterns over a warm color palette and lending the space a sense of openness.

An open sushi counter puts the craft of Japanese cuisine on full display, while a bar and DJ station set the tempo for both day and evening service. Lush greenery and thoughtfully placed screens—which echo the stained glass detailing found in the Dubai location—form intimate nooks across the larger terrace.

“Mimi Kakushi Miami offers a city retreat where guests can escape into a world of scent, sound, and light, while still feeling the pulse of Miami,” say studio founders Clémence Pirajean and James Lees. “The rooftop is alive with performance, craft, and atmosphere, creating a unique experience at every moment of the day.”
