Bay Shores Peninsula Hotel, operated by Pacifica Hotels, has opened on Newport Beach’s Balboa Peninsula. The 25-room boutique retreat, formerly a 1960s surf motel, blends midcentury nostalgia with modern California design.
Channeling coastal ease at Bay Shores Peninsula Hotel
Reimagined by Southern California-based CPD Studio, the hotel channels Newport’s golden age through a refined coastal lens.
The lobby balances beach-town ease with sophistication, featuring green-and-white marble floors, arched details, soft pastel hues, brushed brass accents, a curved oak reception desk, and a marble-clad café bar.
Each of the 25 guestrooms layer midcentury silhouettes with contemporary coastal textures, incorporating striped wallpaper, gingham upholstery, curved-leg lounge chairs, custom oak furnishings, and brass-accented marble vanities. Local photography by Mariah Brink and handcrafted lighting by Robert Gordon add a sense of warmth that feels timeless and true to Newport.
Spaces for gathering
Two rooftop spaces—the Penny and the Pearl—offer panoramic views across the harbor and the jetty, serving as a setting for morning yoga, relaxed daytime lounging, or evenings around fireplaces as the sun sets.
Meanwhile, the hotel’s street-level café creates a direct connection to the neighborhood.
“We wanted Bay Shores to feel like a love letter to Newport, a place that nods to its past while embracing the creativity and ease of today’s California lifestyle,” says Blake Marriott, owner of Bay Shores Peninsula Hotel. “Our vision was to create a space that captures the character of the Peninsula, where guests can truly feel the energy of the coast.”
