Capella Singapore Unveils Reimagined Manors

The standalone accommodations are designed to feel like luxury private residences

Capella Singapore, the flagship property of Capella Hotels and Resorts on Sentosa Island, has refreshed the interiors of its Capella Manor and Colonial Manors.

Designed as standalone bungalows that recall private residences, each manor is complete with three ensuite bedrooms, separate living, dining, and study spaces, as well as a private terrace and pool.

Capella Manor has been redesigned by Melbourne-based interior decorator Simone Haag, while the two Colonial Manors were given a revamped by locally based Matthew Shang Design Office (MSDO).

The updated Capella Manor is reminiscent of a chic contemporary residence, enriched by Asian-inspired fabrics, artwork, and lighting.

With over 6,200 square feet of living space spread across over two floors, the manor was designed with a neutral palette, subtly patterned wallpapers and fabrics, and tropical foliage that mirror the surrounding 30 acres of landscaped grounds.

In the living room, a lantern casts leafy shadows across the space, while a custom rug in earthy tones of olive, off-white, and rich brown in a free-flowing linear pattern evokes a sense of topography.

“Over many years, we have established a growing network of artists, makers, antique specialists, vintage traders, and designers that spans the globe,” Haag shares. “Drawing from this treasure trove, we can curate projects unlike anything seen before.”

The space is pulled together with handpicked furniture, commissioned artwork, and vintage pieces. Sculptural vignettes in pewter, ceramics, rare timbers, and glass create the authenticity of a private guesthouse. Adding to the look are vintage pieces, such as a pair of 1930s carved Swedish Monk chairs and woven Peanut chairs.

The Colonial Manors are a tribute to local heritage

The transformation of the two Colonial Manors by MSDO pays homage to their past as British military quarters in the 1880s.

Each manor is arranged over two floors of the original heritage building. MSDO drew inspiration from the concept of a globetrotter’s transient dwelling, articulating the narrative by blending maps of old Singapore with timeless furnishings.

Upon entering the manor on the upper floor, guests are greeted by lush greenery and an eclectic collection of artifacts along a walkway that leads to the Nest, a cozy living area punctuated by a pop of color that contrasts against its white walls. A hand-knotted Persian rug and tropical printed cushions rounds out the space.

Downstairs, guests will find the dining room and the Nook, an alcove adorned with cushions and soft curtains.

Additionally, the manor features an outdoor dining area equipped with a barbecue, dining table, plush seating, and canopy all framed by a private pool.
