Hospitality company Mission Group has launched its latest concept, Royal Sands Social Club, in Washington, DC’s Navy Yard district.
Designed by SAINT – Studio for Architecture and Interiors, the two-level, 14,000-square-foot venue channels the beach bars of coastal Florida—complete with a sunken tiled pool area. “The space was organized into experiential zones—a tapestry of snapshots—unique moments within the space to reinforce the project narrative and create visual interest,” says SAINT project architect Alyson Silva.
Characterized by portholes, custom banquettes, and a 30-foot-tall lifeguard stand and DJ booth, the sunken bar is lined with azure tiles, making it appear filled with pool water. Stainless steel pool railings also contribute to the whimsy, while sunset yellow ceilings contrast the palette above the 70-foot bar. Colorful striped umbrellas line an elevated space known as the Sun Deck, while an intimate cocktail bar, dubbed the Florida Room, is distinguished by natural woven textiles, leafy wallcoverings, and a hanging garden.
Overlooking Nationals Park, the Cabana Bar crowns Royal Sands with sliding glass doors and mirrored cabanas. The bar is positioned to maximize sunset views, but also boasts a sunset-inspired palette to brighten gray days as well. “This project is unique for DC from concept to color palette,” adds SAINT principal Michael Francis. “It is fun-focused and vibrant.”
