Romer Hell’s Kitchen, a 295-room hotel in New York managed by Highgate, has launched piano bar and supper club So & So’s.
Created as a discrete escape for locals and the theater industry, the sumptuous, dimly lit lounge evokes the feeling of stumbling into a local legend’s living room.
The name So & So’s implies the casual familiarity of a neighborhood fixture, a place where the somebodies mingle easily with the whoevers.
Tucked away on a side street, the front entrance features hand-drawn tags inspired by grease-marker graffiti, transporting guests from an anonymous street corner into a cozy listening room.
Design firm Goodrich crafted both the interior design and branding of So & So’s.
In an ode to Hell’s Kitchen’s working theater scene, the raised stage stars an upright piano like those in rehearsal studios, rather than the expected grand piano.
Deep red banquettes, upholstered walls, and custom lighting echo classic New York nightlife spots.
“We designed the space to draw inspiration from beloved and iconic NYC neighborhood bars from decades past, folding in anachronistic details and vintage elements,” says firm founder and principal Matthew Goodrich. “We combined these details with a contemporary energy driven by modern patterns and a striking red and blue color palette to achieve the desired aesthetic.”
