Thomas Guy Interiors has revealed the renovation of the Bekery, a café and confectionary located in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The 2,500-square-foot concept has been revitalized with a modern reinterpretation of classic French design traditions. “We wanted to bring a little bit of ole Paris’ to a town that was born from French influences,” says Lance Thomas, principal at Thomas Guy. “The Bekery creates all of their goods from traditional French practices with a few Cajun-French surprises and ingredients. The space needed to have a few surprises, as well.”
Clean white interiors are lined with green- and cream-hued penny tiles for a contemporary take on checkered floors. Baroque-style globe pendants and crystal chandeliers are suspended above diners to contextualize the lofty interior, while bell-shaped fixtures illuminate the coffee bar. Custom bistro tables span the space to complement historic elements like antique salvaged columns as well as new details like brass shelving and accents. “These contrasts give the Bekery an elevated classical design, yet approachable and unbuttoned,” Thomas adds.
