The Vasper recently debuted at the Mondrian Park Avenue hotel in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood.
The New American bistro pays homage to midcentury modernism via a design by Delphine Mauroit of DMDesign and Tom Mckay of Mckay Architects and Design. “The main source of inspiration for the venue was to pull from the themes found on the menu—a modernized and upscale take on the traditional,” Mauroit says. “We wanted the space to be contemporary and sophisticated with an urban earthy vibe.”
A sophisticated earthiness abounds through warm wood panels, soft concrete floors, and greenery, while reflective antique mirrors expand the atmosphere. Subtle, sleek chandeliers illuminate earthen hues—from including beige to blue tones—as well as immersive abstract artwork by Silvère Jarrosson.
The Vasper comprises a trio of spaces featuring modular, versatile furniture that organically flow into one another. Marble tables are installed beneath lofty ceilings in the lively bar and dining room. A second room reinterprets the palette, adorning similar slatted panels with an azure tone. Cast in a darker blue colorway, the third and final space offers intimacy and views of the open kitchen for a theatrical touch.
