As part of a multimillion-dollar renovation led by Room 1804 Design, the Fairmont Mayakoba in Riviera Maya, Mexico has unveiled a new beach club. Overlooking the Caribbean coast, Maykana comprises five F&B options as well as seaside pools, opulent cabanas, and sunken fire pits.
Locally sourced materials distinguish the space alongside accents of cool shades influenced by the property’s mangroves and canals. “We took inspiration from the tropical nature and the Caribbean to create a neutral color palette that combines land and sea,” says Room 1804 director Luis Yunta. “We sought to create the ultimate beach club that conveys modern and simple luxury.”
Among Maykana’s numerous amenities is a sunken lounge that nods to Mayan culture in references to the cenotes of the Yucatán Peninsula and rich azure tones. Wood, mud, and natural fibers found from the area comprise the space, while furniture crafted by artisans of Riviera Maya showcase the region’s distinctive craftsmanship.
Dining options include the Bohemian-chic Fuego; the signature Gaia Seafood Restaurant; the adults-only Cielo Rooftop Bar; and laidback concepts Aqua and Brisas. “The renovation cements Fairmont Mayakoba’s commitment to the surrounding Mayan community paying homage to their culture and history, especially in building Maykana,” Yunta adds. “The beach club is inspired by the five elements of nature: air, water, fire, earth, and aether, which reflects our dedication to a space where guests can find a truly holistic environment to rejuvenate themselves through nourishment, play, and leisure.”
