New York-based design studio Post Company has transformed Lake Placid’s historic Hotel North Woods into the Grand Adirondack Hotel, Lake Placid, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. The property, which was first opened as Hotel Marcy in 1927, has been fully reimagined with an elevated design that nods to the past while also looking toward the future.
Most of all, the redesign infuses a rustic but refined sense of place. “The Grand Adirondack Hotel takes inspiration from the nature that surrounds it, the beauty of the Adirondacks,” says Wright Investments president and CEO Larry Wright Jr. “The hotel’s identity and inspiration are a balance between the historical influences from the Great Camps of the Adirondacks and modern elegance.”
Among the 92-room destination’s immersive social hubs is its inviting lobby and rooftop bar Cloud Splitter, which overlooks Mirror Lake, Whiteface Mountain, and the High Peaks. Onsite brasserie Marcy is also featured to complement the warm interior. Artwork and furnishings throughout further inject the history of Lake Placid into the modern narrative. “The Grand Adirondack Hotel looks to its historic past to metamorphose through a modern lens,” adds Wright adds. “The design of the hotel honors the heritage while also still adding to the narrative.”
