Perched upon a Mykonos hilltop overlooking Ornos Bay, suite- and villa-only hotel Kalesma is slated to open on the tropical Greek island in late April 2021. Athens-based design practices K-Studio and Studio Bonarchi will partner on the design of the five-acre property, which will evoke classic Mykonos warmth and hospitality through communal spaces, handcrafted details, and 360-degree views of the Aegean Sea. “The interiors of Kalesma Mykonos reveal a sophisticated interpretation of Cycladic style, characterized by a noble, authentic simplicity—an amalgam of tradition with contemporary design elements,” says Vangelis Bonios, founder of Studio Bonarchi.
An effortless sense of cool will be infused across the lobby with stylish furniture and original artwork by Serbian ceramic artist Aleksandar Vac punctuating the space with traditional Cycladic minimalist forms. Refreshing earth tones like taupe, gray, and charcoal will blend together with whitewashed surfaces and bougainvillea-filled archways that instill a sense of place. Brushed oak, bush-hammered stone, and patinaed brass will round out the authentic materiality. Situated adjacent to the hotel’s infinity pool, the signature restaurant Pere Ubu will serve as a convivial social hub centered on communal dining and celebration.
Each of Kalesma’s 25 suites will be attached to spacious 970-square-foot terraces to reinforce the natural splendor of the setting. The hotel’s two- and three-bedroom villas will both total 2,600 square feet and feature an open plan living room with separate dining areas, as well as a fully equipped kitchen.
“Kalesma is not really a hotel—it is a village, in the traditional Mykonian sense,” add Dimitris and Konstantinos Karampatakis of K-Studio. “Kalesma reimagines the concept of the extended family home, as an intimate hospitality destination that invites guests to connect to the essence of Cycladic life.”
