The San Francisco office of Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA) has completed the redesign of the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay, elevating the 607-room property with an homage to the city’s downtown. Drawing upon the vibrant aesthetic and spirit of the Wynwood district and, of course, Magic City sunsets, the hotel has been reinvigorated with an inviting new flair. “This essence of creativity and wonder is something we wanted the guest to feel from the moment they arrive,” says HBA San Francisco senior designer Alecia Enriquez. “Seeing our vision come together has been incredibly rewarding.”
A lofty lobby flooded in natural light and accented by soothing soft lines and warmth sets the tone for a stimulating experience. Above reception, an undulating focal screen comprising natural wood commands focus along with intricate tilework reminiscent of Miami’s turquoise waters. Sociable seating configurations express bold geometries atop custom rugs.
HBA’s redesign has also yielded a new restaurant, Gold Coast Kitchen + Cocktails, which boasts a waterfront deck and a dining room defined by Streamline Moderne style. A contemporary, watercolor-style palette further enlivens the eatery and bar with a sense of place, while banquettes punctuated with porthole-like openings nod to the city’s cruise culture. Fluted blue tiles line the buffet area as well.
Another new addition to the property is Marriott’s first downtown Miami M Club. Pastel tones evoke a spirited flair punctuated by oversized ceiling lights. Notes of black metal, terrazzo stone tabletops, ribbed tilework, and geometric natural wood elements also abound. The concept peaks in the guestrooms, where carpeting evocative of the sea is featured alongside custom headboard murals to affirm the artistic spirit of the setting.
