Sandbourne is set to launch this spring in Santa Monica, California. Touching down on Ocean Avenue with 175 guestrooms and suites, the beachfront hotel is being designed by Atelier Gulla Jónsdóttir.
Crafted as a sensorial experience, textures play a key role in Sandbourne Santa Monica’s design narrative, with woven fibers and soft linens contrasting against sleek, polished surfaces. Minimalist accents and natural tones that channel the sand and the sea are punctuated by pops of color and contemporary art that mirrors the city’s vibrancy.
“The focal point of the design resides in the ethereal double-height lobby, adorned with sculptural columns crafted from organic white concrete,” shares Gulla Jónsdóttir, owner and principal of her eponymous firm. “These columns stand as artful embodiments, seamlessly merging structural integrity with aesthetic allure. Through this captivating space, there is a vista to the ocean inviting the guest into a realm where craftsmanship meets the majesty of the sea.”
The hotel’s opening will also introduce a new restaurant concept from Santa Monica native and chef Raphael Lunetta, as well as amenities like a pool with cabanas, a lounge, a fitness center, and 10,000 square feet of event spaces.
The goal is for guests to feel “as though they are embarking upon a journey to an urban oasis, where tranquility unfolds with a relaxed and sensuous grace,” Jónsdóttir adds.
