Marriott International’s Luxury Collection has inaugurated Shisui, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Nara in one of the most historic and scenic destinations in Japan.
Nestled on the western edge of Nara Park, the property blends Japanese architectural elegance and celebrates the beauty of the Yoshiki-en garden via a design by Kengo Kuma & Associates. The hotel embodies the region’s history, culture, and indigenous traditions to offer an authentic experience.
Shisui’s reception lobby, restaurant, and lounge are housed within a low wooden structure initially constructed in 1922 as the residence of Nara’s governor. This historical building retains its classical Japanese roofed gate, which serves as the main entrance to the hotel.
Each of the property’s 43 guestrooms and suites are flooded with natural light from floor-to-ceiling windows that offer views of the gardens and greenery. The interiors of the accommodations showcase local craftsmanship, and select rooms provide views of nearby Mount Wakakusa.
Shisui offers two private spas, each with an outdoor natural hot spring bath. The spa building is located on the site of a Western-style building built in the early Showa period (1926–1989). Its Western elements have been revitalized, with the addition of Japanese influences.
