Junebug, a music-focused hospitality experience from Neighborhood Restaurant Group, has opened its doors in Downtown New Orleans.
Designed by Neighborhood Restaurant Group’s creative team (Catherine and Michael Babin, Mary Pforr, and lighting artist Rick Singleton), Junebug occupies a historic building that once housed the iconic Jazz City Studio, where legendary producers and artists shaped the sounds of funk music in the 1970s.
Junebug’s design
The design blends garden-inspired elements with rich textures and materials that integrate the lush outdoor patio, neighboring flower shop, and the motif of its namesake.
A striking bar, framed by four arches adorned with 128 handpainted rosettes, glows under half-chrome bulbs, while a variety of brandies are displayed on custom shelving. The garden theme is further reinforced by copper armatures that echo budding flowers and floral wallpaper that runs throughout the interiors.
Musical influences come to life through repurposed Victrola trumpets transformed into floral light fixtures, cymbals reimagined as sconces, and vintage milk glass chandeliers that cast a warm glow.
The Secret Spot
At the front of the adjacent event space, New Orleans-based florist Tey Stiteler’s studio, the Secret Spot, doubles as a gift shop and event entrance, where a work counter seamlessly converts into a bar for private gatherings.
