Maritime Heritage Shapes Oyster Estate in Greenport

Blue Flag Capital partners with Islyn Studio to revive a 34-room landmark on Long Island’s North Fork

Blue Flag Capital, in partnership with in-house management company Collared Martin Hospitality, has debuted the 34-key Oyster Estate in Greenport Village on Long Island’s North Fork.

Blue Flag Capital’s third hotel on Long Island, Oyster Estate welcomes guests into its guestrooms, public spaces, and courtyard pool. Fortune Favors, the property’s cocktail-forward dining destination, is set to open soon.

A waterfront setting on the North Fork

Oyster Estate is a thoughtful transformation of the former Greenporter Hotel, a longtime fixture in the community. Oyster Estate retains the existing structure while accommodations, bathrooms, public spaces, the central courtyard and pool, and F&B venues have all been redesigned.

“We approached the Greenporter with a lot of respect for its history and the role it has played in the community, while recognizing the opportunity to evolve it into something entirely new,” says Brad Guidi, cofounder and chief development officer of Blue Flag Capital. “The bones of the property remain, but nearly every aspect of the guest experience was reimagined, drawing inspiration from Greenport’s maritime heritage and creative spirit to create something that feels distinctly rooted in the North Fork.”

Maritime-inspired interiors by Islyn Studio

Designed by Blue Flag in collaboration with Islyn Studio, Oyster Estate draws inspiration from the historic bay houses found along the Long Island coast and the surrounding landscape. Interiors are layered and material-driven, with wood used throughout as framing, furniture, enclosure, and built-ins that anchor the spaces and create a sense of permanence.

The color palette is drawn from the nearby shoreline, with clay tones, weathered greens, and salt-softened stone, while flowers gathered throughout Greenport were dried and pressed into lobby tiles. A hay plaster ceiling recalls the surrounding salt marshes and ceramics sourced from a local maker further integrate the community into the design.

The hotel’s common spaces unfold as a series of lived-in rooms rather than a singular lobby, with seating arranged to accommodate both gatherings and quieter moments. Books, found local objects, and plant life are layered throughout to create a residential feeling. The reimagined courtyard, patio, and outdoor pool, meanwhile, serve as Oyster Estate’s social heart.

Coming soon: Fortune Favors

The forthcoming Fortune Favors is the hotel’s signature cocktail bar and listening room, serving as a vibrant counterpoint to the calm of the guest spaces with its saturated colors and atmospheric lighting.

Inspired by the spirit of an artist’s workshop, the space is designed as a multisensory gathering place that features a dedicated listening room, where spinning vinyls and a custom sound system bring music into dialogue with the restaurant’s menu.

Blue Flag Capital’s growing East End portfolio

Oyster Estate marks Blue Flag Capital and Collared Martin Hospitality’s third opening on Long Island’s East End this year. Earlier this season, Blue Flag debuted Hotel Corduroy in Montauk and the waterfront Faraway Sag Harbor, while also expanding west with the launch of Faraway Jackson Hole in Teton Village, Wyoming.
