Following successful openings in Paris, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, and New York, the Perrotin contemporary art gallery has launched its latest branch in Shanghai Bund. Situated opposite the city’s Rock Bund Museum, the new gallery boasts the denomination as Perrotin’s largest gallery in Asia. At 14,000 square feet, the space is housed across the top of a historic three-story brick structure known as the Amber Building.
Designer Andre Fú and his Hong Kong-based design practice AFSO oversaw the revitalization of the interior, highlighting the distressed timber framework of the existing structure alongside new, contemporary elements including an open white box to unite the old and the new. The gallery comprises four unique exhibition rooms laid with distinctive floor patterns as well as an upper mezzanine with a private salon and adjoining terrace. One room is outfitted with a network of exposed I-beams in the roofscape, while another features wrought metal windows that flood the double-height space with natural light. The gallery’s private salon also showcases an open truss ceiling.
The Perrotin gallery in Shanghai has been inaugurated with an exhibition of artwork by Belgian artist Wim Delvoye.
