Quality Branded, the group behind acclaimed New York concepts like Don Angie and Quality Italian, has expanded to the West Coast. The highly anticipated Beverly Hills outpost of Bad Roman marks the team’s first California venture.

Originating at New York’s Columbus Circle since 2022, the spirited Italian concept’s second location occupies the iconic former address of the Palm Steakhouse on North Canon Drive.

“We know Los Angeles is desperate for another Italian restaurant. So, we’re sending Bad Roman out West to take care of that,” says Quality Branded’s CEO Michael Stillman.

Welcome to the new Bad Roman

Designed by the Brooklyn-based firm GRT Architects, the 3,570-square-foot space mirrors the cacophony of rich materials and playful elements found in its New York counterpart. The brand’s signature colors—golden yellow and leafy green—are prominently displayed through golden travertine and lush green tile cladding along the existing windows.

Above the entry, the façade showcases a wavy “strigil” pattern adorned with ancient Roman motifs and a snake—two visual elements that are woven throughout Bad Roman’s interior and graphic design.

Inside the maximalist design

Upon arrival, guests are greeted by textured glass blocks that create an immediate sense of surprise. Inside, an idiosyncratic boar sculpture keeps watch over the bustling dining room, while unique two-dimensional brass awnings dance above an inviting curved bar. These details draw the eye deeper into a visually luxurious interior splashed with warm tones of orange, green, and maroon.

The interiors are further elevated by lighthearted trompe l’oeil elements layered across the space. The restaurant’s mini menagerie continues with greyhound statues standing guard over plush green velvet banquettes, accompanied by curvaceous snake door handles.

To complete the atmosphere, tables and booths are illuminated by shielded neon and brass lighting fixtures. This custom lighting casts a warm, dimmed glow that accommodates both intimate moments and lively gatherings in the heart of Beverly Hills.
