Ivy Studio continues to leave its mark across Montreal, this time with an office space and photo studio for M.A.D Collectif. Spread across the 3,600-square-foot ground floor of a two-story building in the Village, the M.A.D Creative Hub embodies flexibility to promote collaboration and discourse. A work-in-progress aesthetic further lends itself to serve as an apt and versatile backdrop for pop-ups, exhibitions, and other programming.
“We wanted the place to feel like it’s constantly evolving. We wanted guests to feel surprised and intrigued by the design,” says Ivy Studio architect and founder Philip Staszewski. “This raises the point that MAD is no ordinary company and these are no ordinary offices.”
Throughout the flexible space, ceramic, plaster, cement, and plywood elements—all painted white—are punctuated by metal studs and exposed insulation that conveys a raw sensibility. “We still wanted to have the space feel intentional and that it is not actually still under construction,” Staszewski adds. “To contrast with this unfinished palette, we added a few ‘luxury’ finishes.”
A solid marble bar is installed along with orange poufs and expansive velvet banquettes in a lavender hue that pop beside galvanized steel tables. Workspaces line peripheral walls, while private offices and meeting rooms are sheathed in more distant corners of the space.
A backlit system and linear ceiling tracks were also installed to easily accommodate a range of programming needs.
