Rosewood Hotel Group has opened its first property in Japan, introducing its luxury experience on the idyllic island of Miyakojima off Japan’s southern coast.

Rosewood Miyakojima features 55 guest accommodations, including oceanfront villas and three expansive houses. The architecture, envisioned by Studio Piet Boon, prioritizes a connection between the resort and its surroundings, utilizing natural materials, clean lines, local Ryukyu stone, and textures that reflect the island’s beaches and turquoise waters.

“At Studio Piet Boon, we feel a deep connection to Japanese culture, particularly in design principles such as simplicity, balance, and harmony” says studio founder Piet Boon. “These elements were essential in shaping the property, allowing us to create a seamless blend of luxury and tranquility—one that celebrates both the local environment and our shared design values.”

The resort is divided into five distinct accommodation zones, each showcasing a distinct aspect of the island’s landscape. From cliffside Daya villas to beachfront Uru villas, each villa is designed to immerse guests in the natural beauty of the area. For those seeking a more private experience, three exclusive houses—UPRA, KUURA, and KAMII—offer expansive living spaces, private terraces, and dedicated butler service.

Culinary offerings at Rosewood Miyakojima are designed to celebrate the island’s culinary heritage including NAGI, an all-day dining concept; MAAS, an oceanside restaurant; YUKUU, a poolside bar; and CHOMA an immersive experience in traditional Japanese cuisine, opening later this year.

Wellness is at the heart of the Rosewood experience, with the resort’s Asaya Spa offering therapies inspired by Okinawan traditions. Asaya Spa also features a yoga studio, fitness center, and six treatment rooms.
