The team behind the Dead Rabbit has unveiled San Patricios, a vibrant pub and cantina concept in Jersey City, New Jersey that intertwines Irish and Mexican heritage.

The venue draws inspiration from the San Patricios Battalion, a group of Irish immigrants who fought alongside Mexico during the Mexican-American War, forging a bond rooted in solidarity and shared spirit.

Bringing the Dead Rabbit hospitality to New Jersey

With a vision led by managing partner Jack McGarry—along with director of operations Laura Torres, beverage director Aidan Bowie, and director of strategy Gráinne O’Neill—the concept pays homage to both nations’ traditions.

“We’ve had our eye on bringing the Dead Rabbit team to Jersey—and the opportunity to create a vibrant and new concept with San Patricios is a dream realized,” says Torres. “Our team has done a stellar job of weaving together these two heritages, to both celebrate their overlap and their distinctive elements—we’re proud to open our doors and share it with the community.”

Bridging two worlds at San Patricios

The interiors of San Patricios merge the rustic warmth of an Irish pub with the colorful energy of a Mexican cantina. Worn wood, rich leathers, and brass accents evoke classic Irish taverns, while handcrafted Talavera tiles, handpainted murals, and small altar walls infuse the space with Mexican artistry. Trilingual signage appears in English, Irish, and Spanish.

San Patricios has also launched a three-year partnership with Los San Patricios GAA, the first and only Gaelic Athletic Association club in Mexico. Based in Mexico City, the club promotes the ancient Irish sport of Gaelic football. This collaboration inspired the design of the bar’s custom GAA jersey uniform, which was created by Irish sportswear brand O’Neills.
