Studio Lotus has revealed its design for the Taj Guras Kutir Resort and Spa, nestled in the rhododendron forests of Gangtok in India’s northeastern state of Sikkim.

Set against panoramic views of the valleys and snow-capped Kanchenjunga, the 69-key property is grounded in its natural and cultural context.

Sikkimese woven tapestries are reinterpreted as wood-beaded screens, while the vibrant reds, golds, and blues of traditional thangka paintings inform the resort’s palette.

Craftsmanship plays a central role: A hand-knotted wool carpet anchors the banquet hall, while bespoke furnishings and décor celebrate the artisanal traditions of the region.

Purposeful design elements—including a contemplative arrival pavilion and a meditative courtyard—invite guests into the surrounding landscape. Throughout, public spaces are conceived to feel welcoming and functional year-round, blending comfort with climate-conscious design.
