Sona Reddy Studio has debuted Terrai, an 8,500-square-foot restaurant in Hyderabad, India that draws inspiration from the state of Telangana.

An urban oasis

Located on the ground floor of a corporate high-rise, Terrai is designed to offer a retreat from the urban bustle.

The central dining area sets the stage upon entry with its bold presence, while two private dining rooms provide intimate settings. Outdoor seating, framed by a dynamic metal grid, creates a connection to nature while maintaining a refined atmosphere.

The entrance captivates with a striking blue metal door featuring ikat-inspired handles that leads guests into a lobby adorned with a pink sandstone planter ledge.

Inside, Terrai’s material palette reflects the region’s textile and craft traditions. Black granite and Kota stone form intricate ikat-style flooring, an homage to Telangana’s renowned weaving heritage.

Terracotta-hued walls lend an earthy warmth that complement wooden carpentry, windows, and doors. Stained glass windows, metal, and Dokra-like details introduce layers of texture and cultural depth.

Storytelling through lighting

Lighting plays a transformative role at Terrai. Bathukamma-inspired light installations, reflecting the scale and vibrancy of Telangana’s iconic floral festival, illuminate the main dining space.

Meanwhile, private dining rooms feature stretched fabric lighting and gold ceilings, creating an intimate, softly lit ambiance.
