The Bellevue, Philadelphia’s iconic Grande Dame of Broad Street, has officially entered a new era.
With the debut of 184 redesigned guestrooms and 39 suites, the historic, French Renaissance-style property, which is part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt, ushers in a dramatic renaissance that blends classical grandeur with a refreshed lens on luxury and community.
Originally opened in 1904 and designed by G.W. & W.D. Hewitt, the Bellevue has long been a symbol of the city’s architectural ambition.
Today, that legacy lives on through a transformation led by Ward + Gray, in collaboration with Tony Machado, Anouska Hempel, Grace Song Studio, and other global creatives.
The design team took a restoration-first approach, reviving ornamental millwork, uncovering mosaic tiles, and layering in contemporary elegance across public and private spaces alike.
A grand design reborn
Presidential suite
From its sweeping double-height lobby to its intimately tailored guestrooms, the hotel embraces a sense of permanence and romance. Ribbed glass and brass accents, original ceiling moldings, and custom Venetian chandeliers set the stage, while marble mosaic floors and rich burgundy tones channel an old-world sensibility.
Guestrooms unfold as urban pieds-à-terre, marked by honed stone flooring, antique-inspired fireplaces, and French Renaissance-style millwork. The showpiece presidential suite spans more than 2,000 square feet and includes an orangerie-inspired salon, Belgian bluestone floors, and a handpainted mural that nods to Pennsylvania’s landscape.
Social and event spaces
The Conservatory atrium
The Conservatory—anchored by a fully restored seven-story skylight—serves as the social hub of the hotel. The space now reads as a Parisian garden courtyard, replete with treillage, vintage sconces, and custom lanterns. This historic atrium is surrounded by accommodations that offer views into the lush, light-filled interior.
The hotel houses more than 30,000 square feet of gathering space across three floors. The Grand Belle ballroom—once graced by U.S. presidents—has been updated with original moldings, custom replica chairs, and ornate wrought-iron detailing. On the 19th floor, XIX provides an opulent backdrop for weddings and galas, complete with rotunda ceilings, Renaissance balconies, and panoramic skyline views.
Wellness at the Bellevue
The Bellevue also reintroduces the Sporting Club, a 100,000-square-foot wellness destination with indoor tracks, pickleball and squash courts, coworking lounges, and an outdoor terrace. Hotel guests receive full access, and memberships are extended to residents of the Residences at the Bellevue—a collection of 155 luxury apartments that share the property’s historic footprint.
